An Ouija board is a spiritual board used to communicate with the dead.
The Ouija board originated from Baltimore, Maryland in 1890. People believed that the dead were able to contact the living, through the use of a talking board, which is very similar to the modern day Ouija board, at camps in Ohio in 1886. On July 1 1890 the Ouija board was advertised as an innocent game, and the term ‘Ouija’ is now owned by Hasbro.
So, how does an Ouija board work?
The board consists of numbers and letters, and it has the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’. To use a Ouija board, you have to use the panchet(a small heart shaped piece of wood/plastic). Place your fingers on it and the spirits will move it around the board to spell out words and answer your questions.
I have never used a ouija board before as I think it can be dangerous, as you are opening up a portal to allow any spirit, good or bad. However Ouija boards have always fascinated and intrigued me.
Ouija Board Etiquette:
Do:
Darken the room and entice the spirits to visit by using candles
Avoid distractions, turn that phone off!
Warm up the board by moving the planchette in circles or figures of eights
Be specific about who you wish to communicate with
Be respectful of the spirits
Don’t:
Do not use the Ouija board alone
Do not confuse the spirits with questions you don’t want to know the answer to
Don't ask questions you already know the answer to
Do not accept all communications as a fact, listen to your gut
Do not be disheartened if it doesn't work, sometimes the spirits don't want to talk!
We would love to hear your experiences with the paranormal/Ouija boards, so DM us on Instagram or comment on our photos.
Also let me know what topics you would like me to talk about, I am happy to talk about witchcraft, the paranormal, conspiracy theories, anything unusual and interesting.
Take caution when opening yourself up to spirits/using a Ouija board, you never know who you could be talking to.
Love and light, the Luna Wytch x
I have to admit a certain... reluctance... to using one. My reasons are from being present when others had them, maybe used them irresponsibly, and complaining, after, when the outcomes were not favourable. I know I'm not others, but something doesn't sit right with me about opening channels to random spirit and opening oneself to the risk of mayhem we may not be prepared for. These items are sold almost as a toy or game. I acceot my view maybe seen as "heavy" but believe they have an inherrantly darker side and caution can do no harm.
